Building Project

In the spring of 2002 the Camp Board was thinking and praying about the future growth of this ministry. The Facilities and Grounds Committee had just completed an evaluation and upgrade of all existing facilities. Yet the lack of facilities restricted our ability to do the ministry we felt called to do.

Attendance at the closing programs on Friday evenings in the summer regularly rose above 250 people. This was more than twice the capacity of the dining hall in the main lodge building. Inclement weather forced cancellation of the closing program, often a highlight of the week, on multiple occasions.  In addition inclement weather in the fall, winter and spring left us with few activity options for the retreat groups we hosted.

At this time the camp board was unanimous in their support of proceeding with building a new multi purpose facility. The Facilities and Grounds Committee agreed to a redefined role and became our Building Committee. We contacted the township with our desire to build and they instructed us to take our plan to the Zoning Board for an iitial review. Unfortunately the Township Zoning Board did not share our vision and voted unanimously to deny the permissions we needed to move ahead. Though prospects at times looked bleak we appealed that initial decision and eventually received a unanimous vote for approval. It took us almost seven years to work our way through the process and receive all the local, county and state approvals we needed. That final plan was filed in March of 2009. Since that time we have completed the Land Development Plan, the buiding plans and Phase One of our building project, the installation of a 1400 foot sewer line. Although the initial estimates on cost for this phase totaled about $68,000 we were able to complete Phase One at a cost of less that $15,000 thanks to a group of businesses that donated supplies or labor to the effort. Thanks to: Usner Excavating, Brubacher Excavating, Terre Hill Concrete, Martin Limestone, Fast Supply, L & S Sweetners, Eagle Concrete, Sensenig and Weaver, and Norm Sharp Septic

We expect to begin Phase Two, which involves construction of the building pad and all storm water and preconstruction site work in 2010.  Phase Three which will be the actual building construction will follow shortly thereafter.  Phase Four will be the post construction site work.

Our Goals

The need for a multi purpose building is pressing. At current construction rates initial estimates of the cost of this project were about $800,000. Financial gifts and donated services have already reduced the total needed to about $600.000.

Will you join us?

Please pray for this project as we work through the various processes. We are asking the Lord to continue to provide volunteers from the building trades, and provide the funds necessary to complete this building in His time. Our Board of Directors as well as the Building Committee are all invested in this project. We need your help too. Won’t you prayerfully consider your participation in this project? We would love to hear from you soon.
